Sentinels of Time
Malaysia is a privileged country in terms of natural resources. In fact, it is considered one of the top twelve multi-diverse countries in the world, which means that it possesses an enormous variety of organisms, forests and jungles that are a refuge for an infinite number of animals, plants, insects, etc.
At the same time, our territory has consistency in temperatures and water availability, which allows it to support humid forests, montane forests, cloud forests, low jungles and mangroves.
Today, less than half of our country is covered by forests. At this pace, our grandchildren won't have a chance to see our forest beauty. Thus there is a great urgency to bring back the IMAGE and EMOTIONS of all types of trees in the country, especially majestic trees that can also act as symbols of protection and proactive actions to preserve these amazing creations of Nature.
The Sentinels of Time photography competition is a competition for all Malaysians to take digital images of majestic trees that can be found in the state of Selangor. The idea is to get as many Malaysians to record, document (through photographs), describe and locate these trees through a photographic competition which doubles as a platform to engage the public to take a more active role in reforestation and conservation.
The best 12 digital images will be used as exhibition materials to educate the public on the need to protect existing trees via photography exhibitions all around the country. These 12 specially selected images of trees act as symbols to teach, educate and inform the public on the importance of forest conservation and reforestation in the country. On top of that, there's over RM25,000 cash and prizes to be won. Click here for rules of the competition.
